Large warehouse windows, a handmade wooden bar and concrete floors. It was a decidedly New York gallery opening feeling that greeted people in a vacant shop in the Garema centre last Friday night.
Trove’s Fashion meets Art Showcase celebrated the skills and talents of local fashion designers and artists. Trove has two fashion designer members, Jade from Sovata and Annette from Dissonance. They were joined by three other Canberra designers, Yumi from Zilpah Tart, Kelly from Pure Pod and Karen from Karen Lee. Between them there was a lovely range of gorgeous clothing, millinery and accessories in a variety of styles to suit diverse body shapes.
There were roving models, a live painting demonstration and a fabulous ambience provided by musicians David Bath and Julia Horvath. The public were able to meet the makers, buy designer clothing and art in a relaxed environment, enjoying a glass of wine and gourmet nibbles.
Some people were introduced to Trove, a co-operative of local Canberran artists, makers and designers, for the first time. The shop next door remained open throughout the event so that visitors could see the clever offerings of all the Trove members. There was a positive buzz in the air, everyone enjoying a great evening that showcased the talented people living in our city and surrounds.
You can find Sovata, Dissonance and The Fifth Season Artworks in Trove Canberra. Shop Karen Lee's collection at Assemblage Project in Braddon, Zilpah Tart at the Cardiff Collective in Kingston, and Pure Pod at both Assemblage and Cardiff Collective. Fiona Hill Artist can be found online.
