Meet Our Designers: There Goes a Pig

Meet Our Designers is a regular feature. Each week one of Trove’s members is featured on our social media and here on our news pages. Follow Trove on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay up-to-date.

Trove’s Designers and Artists are local Canberrans and all their gorgeous products are handmade.

Please meet Carolyn from There Goes a Pig. Carolyn works in her home studio, ably supported by her gorgeous four-legged assistant, Sugar. She begins by hand-drawing designs (Carolyn draws, Sugar supports), until she is happy with the result.  The designs are then screen printed onto linen tea-towels, tote bags and linen fabric.  Carolyn sews the fabric into cushions and other items like cosmetic bags.  Her designs are also printed onto magnets, cards and wrapping labels.  Carolyn enjoys all the steps involved in creating her products including the final one of packaging which, to her, is particularly pertinent as it tells the story of her business and presents her goodies to the big wide world!

We asked Carolyn what she likes about Canberra. Her reply will melt your heart. Carolyn loves that people in Canberra are receptive and appreciative of individual creativity, embrace handmade shops and markets and show their support by purchasing these products.  “Items that are hand designed, produced and packaged have a special, extra dimension reflecting the thought and care processes which combine to produce them. You can feel the love!”
Carolyn says “The biggest buzz for me comes when people are attracted to my designs and purchase my products, either for themselves or loved family or friends – it’s very humbling and rewarding”. We couldn’t agree more.
