Wombat & Poss

Kylie from Wombat & Poss is one of the founding members of Trove (along with JAC Studios). She designs, knits and sews her range in Canberra, Australia.

Kylie says, “I’ve been fascinated by fabrics and fibres since I was a young child. I was lucky enough to have my Nanna teach me to knit and my Mum share her sewing knowledge with me all those years ago. Fast-forward a few years and I found myself sewing my own clothes as a student and re-learning knitting while researching as a wool scientist at CSIRO.

While my career took a different direction towards ICT, I always maintained my creative interests. I started making baby and children’s clothing after my own children were born and loved exploring the different colours and shapes I could use. As the demands of managing a busy work and family life grew, I found myself dreaming of managing my own time and schedule. A few years ago, I decided to leave the public service to spend more time with my children and pursue my creative hobby – and Wombat & Poss was born!

Wombat & Poss is about beautiful, simple and stylish clothing and accessories for babies and children that lets them explore and play. My designs have clean, simple lines making them easy to wear and great for self-dressing toddlers. No frills, fussy zips or buttons to contend with! My clothes and accessories are designed to last, with pants becoming shorts and dresses becoming tops as children grow.

I’m passionate about creating ethical clothing, particularly using natural and organic fabrics and fibres and source many of my supplies locally. Everything in my range is hand-knitted and sewn by me in Canberra, Australia, using the age-old techniques. My style is heavily influenced by Scandinavian and Japanese design and I love experimenting and evolving my designs and range.

You can also find my range online on Madeit and Etsy.”  www.etsy.com/shop/wombatandposs
